Exclusive Authors Interview ~ Sarah O'Rourke

Authors Interview

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Hard as Stone tells the story of how Harmony McKinnon had to let go of her past and learn to trust another man again....even when that man wasn’t quite honest with her at the beginning.  But if she hadn’t trusted him, she would have lost out on a fantastic love and a man who adored her child as much as she did.  If there is anything to learn from this book, it’s that sometimes we have to look beyond the surface and be willing to jump into the deep water...and trust!  Let go of the past so you can embrace your future!!

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
Both of us started writing as stress relief!  For Crazy One, writing was a way to cope when her husband was deployed to the Middle East.  For Crazy Two, writing helped overcome work challenges.  We both read to relax and write to alleviate the stress of daily life!!

Do you use a pen name and if  yes how did you pick the name?
We do indeed use a pen name!  Our name “Sarah O’Rourke” was bandied back and forth over a week or so when we were about to publish our first book!  We threw out dozens of name choices, and ended up with this one!  We both like the name Sarah (it is a family name for both of us), and O’Rourke has a solid feel to it!

Hardest scene you have ever written?
We’d have to say that would be the flash-back to a sexual assault one of the characters experienced.  It required some rather unpleasant research since neither of us has ever experienced this.  We could only sympathize – we couldn’t empathize since we had never been there.  We didn’t want to do a disservice to anyone who had ever endured it, and we analyzed ever single word to make sure it was not making light of the situation.  (And for every difficult scene like this, we usually have to then go write a lighter scene in order to let go of the darkness.)

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Thank you so much for asking such a sweet question!  We adore our readers, and would be most appreciative if they could buy, buy, BUY! and share, share, SHARE! about our work!  Word of mouth is a fantastic thing for indie authors like us who are trying to gain a market, and we appreciate every single reader who buys our books and shares with their friends about them in person, on Facebook/Twitter...or however!! AND....reviews are the best present an author can ever get!  We value every single review we get...even the negative ones!  We try to find something useful in every review!

Author:  Sarah O’Rourke

I want to Thank both Authors for taking the time to give me this interview. I have enjoyed reading both books. The two of you do an incredible job creating these wonderful characters that have touch my heart. You two are better than batman and Robin. LOL

Exclusive Interview ~ Jill Prand Author ~ Walking Into Me

 Interview With Author Jill Prand

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Just not to give up on finding your soulmate, even if you thought you’ve lost them.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve always read and I think the writing just came out of that. Both my parents were big readers and never gave me a hard time when I wanted to stay in and either read or write. My Mom’s always been my biggest supporter.

Do you use a pin name and if Yes how did you pick the name?
I do. I just shortened my last name. Removing the last seven letters was more of the name looking good on a cover than anything else. My husband was not happy I was shortening his name.

Hardest scene you have ever written?

In Walk Into Me there is a scene where Lisa is at a Christmas party and she is nearly attached by Stuart. That chapter was rewritten three times. I almost scrapped it but the characters kept pushing me to include it.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

Review it and tell your friends you liked it. Indie authors live for reviews and they help move up our placement on Amazon. And word of mouth is always the best advertising. If you feel the need to pimp me out please come join my street team. It’s called Jill’s Jaggers on Facebook.

Author Spotlight~ Exclusive Interview and Teaser~Melissa Collins ~ The Love Series

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it's been a dream.
Her passion for writing didn't start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn't long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa's brain and The Love Series was born.

©     Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
~ Talents? Some days staying awake is a talent in my life. Sadly, my hobbies are fairly stereotypical of an author: I read and write.
©     Tell us 1 thing about yourself that most people do not know?
~ I have a huge fascination with stars and planets and all that stuff. I could watch shows on the cosmos or the science channel all the time.
©     Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
~ I have a degree in English Lit, so I’ve always enjoyed (actually, more than enjoyed) reading and writing. My interest in writing fiction is one that developed much more recently.
©     What inspired you to write your first book?
~ I know it sounds a little cliché, but I just had a story in my head. Maddy and Reid were there and their story was coming to life and the only way to get it out of my head was to put it on paper.
©     Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members?
~Even though I only know her virtually (for the most part), Carey Heywood has been a huge non-family supporter and I just love her so much for always being there for me.
©     Hardest scene you have ever written?
~I think the prologue from Let Love Heal was the most difficult. For those of you who have read it, you know why. It had to happen, but it tore me to pieces to write those words. There are also a few chapters in the beginning of Let Love Be (Lucy’s book) that were especially difficult to write for the same reason.
©     What gives you the most inspiration?
~ Real life. I’d like to think that my characters are very real and that’s because I just take bits and pieces of my real life and put them in there. I also get a lot of inspiration from listening to music.
©     Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:
~Most of the names from the series are either names of family members or friends and if they’re not, I get them from baby names lists.
©     What are your current projects?
~I just finished Let Love Be (Momma / Lucy’s book). After that, I think I’d like to take a short break from the series and write a standalone. I’m currently working on one called Learning Curves.
©     Will you have a new book coming out soon?
~ Let Love Be will be out in early April and if things go according to plan, I’d love to have Learning Curves out sometime this summer.
©     Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
~Let Love Be follows Lucy (or as series fans know her, Momma) as she finds love again after losing her husband 18 years ago. It really was just some random strokes on the keyboard that brought Evan to life so it was really interesting to actually write their entire story.
©     What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
~ Please tell people about it! Word of mouth is the single most powerful tool out there. You could also write a review - it doesn’t need to be a novel in and of itself. A simple 20 words are all you need to help tell someone else how much you loved the book.
©     Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
~Thank you! I never thought this would be my life. I never thought I’d sell this many books or have this many fans. It’s truly amazing and it all happened because you read my words.
©     And now, before you go, how about a snippet from your book that is meant to intrigue and tantalize us?
I’ve attached an exclusive teaser from Let love Be for you J
Melissa I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me this interview.
I am honored to be able to share your amazing stories with my friends and blog follower.

Shelli @ Sharing a Bit of Romance
What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?
Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.
That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in
If you’re lucky, you’ll fall in love – truly, madly and deeply in love. But what happens when that honest and pure love isn’t enough to erase your fears? What happens when your past rears its ugly head and threatens your future?
Maddy and Reid had that kind of love – the all-encompassing, Earth shattering, once in a lifetime kind of love. Then life happened. Old wounds that were thought to be long healed and scabbed over are ripped opened and they are forced to face the possibility that, maybe, they are not strong enough to fight their demons and embrace the light.

Together, they found out what love is, but now they will each need to heal on their own before they can ever be together again. They must face their fears and beat down their pasts in order to find their way through this crazy uphill battle called love.

They’ve let love in, but now, they need to find out how to Let Love Stay.
Perfection. We all strive for it, but what happens when the desire to be perfect consumes you?
What happens when the need to bury your mistakes blinds you?
Melanie Crane has always been the perfect daughter, friend, student – she’s been perfect at everything, in fact. But when she lets her insecurities, the ones that she keeps hidden from everyone, get the best of her, she falters in her pursuit of perfection. Melanie crumples under the pressure and buries her pain. Numbed by sadness and guilt, she is determined never to let anyone find out how broken she really is.

Bryan Mahoney may appear to have everything in order. He’s charming, witty and completely swoon-worthy. In short, Bryan has life all figured out, but appearances can be deceiving. When the landscape of Bryan’s family changes in an instant, he’s left to pick up the pieces.

Not all bruises leave a mark. Now, weary and afraid, Melanie and Bryan must find a way to let love heal their broken and jaded hearts.
What comes after “they lived happily ever after?”
Maddy and Reid have seen their fair share of trials and tribulations, of love and loss. Facing down the biggest challenges of their young lives, they managed to survive and endure. With the future stretching out before them, they must learn to navigate new and unfamiliar paths.
Being new parents, starting new jobs, and continuing college is enough to overwhelm any couple. New challenges come up daily, as do small victories. Watch Maddy and Reid grow stronger together in this “one year later” tale of the everyday stuff that happens in real life.

With a solid foundation of love under their inexperienced feet – and with the help of their family and friends – Maddy and Reid learn how to let love shine, lighting the way for a beautiful future to come.

Author Spotlight Part 2~ Exclusive Interview ~ AM Hudson Author of the Dark Secrets Series

A. M. Hudson loves her life in Australia and, despite wishing it would snow at Christmas, couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the world.
She fell in love at just sixteen, got married young and, since then, has added three boys to the mix--also releasing her first two novels before her thirtieth birthday.
A. M. prides herself on writing the shocking, the depthy and the highly-emotional subjects other writers steer away from. She addresses the uncomfortable with conviction and enjoys taking stories down dark paths.
Some of her heroes are Stephen King, Walt Disney, Hamish and Andy, Muse and 30 Seconds to Mars, and with influences like these, one can only imagine what stories will unfold.
When she's not writing, A. M. reads books, watches movies and chats with fans on Facebook.

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
I can sing well enough that I was almost going to make a career out of it, but I much prefer to write. I can also draw and paint pretty well. And I’m very good at making cakes that look like masterpieces. I was a bee’s leg away from opening my own cake store when writing took off for me and I chose to follow that path.

Tell us 1 thing about yourself that most people do not know?
Uuuum. I’m incredibly shy. The thought of social situations can make me quite anxious sometimes. Unless I’m in the mood for it. Once there, I usually embrace it and shine.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
It was always there. I never imagined I could make a career out of it, so it was just something I enjoyed doing when I had spare time. I used to write books as a kid and try to sell them to my siblings and friends, and my mum’s friends. They were usually picture books with basic stories. Then I went through a poetry phase, tried my hand at writing for children, didn’t like it, moved on to romance. Loved it.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I couldn’t find anything to read that really ‘ticked all the boxes’ for me. I’d find myself thinking ‘This book would be good if they did this’ or ‘Why can’t there be a story where this happens?’. So, I decided to write my own book—make it everything I’d want it to be if I was looking for something to read.

Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members?
The Australian Writer’s Forum, with special mention to Peter Mclennan. He was the very first person to take me seriously and gave me endless advice, including the best advice I ever had. It went something along the lines of ‘The only difference between a published writer and a wannabe is persistence.’ But I’m paraphrasing.

Hardest scene you have ever written?
Oooh. Tough question. Maybe the dungeon scene, where Jason is torturing Ara. It took a lot of energy for me to write that from her perspective, keeping general writing rules in mind and trying not to be too grotesque while also making it realistic and not overbearing. I had to literally ‘feel’ what she felt both emotionally and physically. I didn’t go as far as to cut myself or anything, but I did sit on my legs for about an hour to see how they’d feel if they went numb, and I did lay on the hard ground to get an idea of what Ara might see or feel (and some other crazy stuff). In fact, to write the scene where she’s in a coma, in the dark, then wakes believing she’s buried alive, I stuffed myself in the blanket box at the end of my bed (and yes, I am claustrophobic), and closed the lid. After the hyperventilation passed, I got up and wrote like mad.

What gives you the most inspiration?
Mundane tasks. Nothing makes me come up with scenes faster than doing the laundry.

Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:
#1: In the beginning, David was supposed to be Ara’s BFF (and human), and Mike, the tall, blonde Aussie, was the vampire. But every time I wrote a scene with the vampire, I kept writing ‘David’. After this happened repeatedly, I realized the characters had grown minds and desires of their own. I made David the vampire and Mike the BFF. David always wanted Ara.
#2: The first book was split in two in 2011 and released as Tears of the Broken and The Knight of the Rose. It has since been combined again.
#3: I came up with the character Ara after dreaming of a girl in a yellow dress who, at the time, I believed would be the daughter I was pregnant with. That daughter turned out to be a boy, so I brought Ara to life in words. She began life in a story set in the 1800s, and it has changed so much since then.
#4: The very first ever version of Dark Secrets had no title, so it was saved on my computer as ‘The girl in the yellow dress’.

What are your current projects?
Book 5 of Dark Secrets and the Elora series that will follow.

Will you have a new book coming out soon?
By the end of this year, yes.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
The fifth book in the Dark Secrets series. All the questions will finally be answered, all the truths finally uncovered, but the journey from the first page to the end page will break your heart, make you cry, tear you apart and leave you whole at the end.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Spread word! If a Facebook post asks what book everyone should read, mention Dark Secrets. And leave reviews.  Authors always read reviews. Reviews not only tell the other readers that you liked or disliked the book, they let the author know what the readers want next. I’ve shaped this series based on what the majority of the readers have begged or asked for.  I had planned to kill Jason, but the Beta Team saved him.

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
You guys are the reason I smile. Writing saved my life in more ways than one, and the support from my readers has been the steady platform that keeps me going when the writing world gets shaky. I love you all.

And now, before you go, how about a snippet from your book that is meant to intrigue and tantalize us?
Okay, here’s one of the most highlighted quotes from Amazon:
“It doesn’t matter how loud you scream. There is no such thing as the worst things can get. There is no rock bottom. There is only a deep, endless pit of hell that you can fall through.”

I want to Thank AM Hudson for taking the time out of her busy schedule from Down Under and give me this amazing interview. If you are not aware she is pregnant and is due very soon. So good luck and have a safe and happy delivery….

To prove the greatest love,

you must face the greatest challenges."

~AM Hudson

Exclusive Interview~ Aine Kelley Author of Finding Home

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Great question
I think what I want readers to take with them is that there is always room in your heart for love and to be loved. No matter what comes your way or in your way – there is room in your heart for love. To find your home.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I always loved to write but I took a long break and just started to write again a few years ago. I started to help other authors and realized I could do this again. So I sat down one day and started writing and didn’t stop.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

TIME! That has been the hardest part. I work full time and have two kids. Finding the time to sit and write has been the biggest challenge for me.

Hardest scene you have ever written?

I have to say there are two. The first was writing my very first sex scene. It felt awkward at first and I learned that I just had to close my eyes, envision it and just let it flow.
The other part was the death scene. I wanted it to be powerful and moving. I wanted the reader to be able to get into Ben’s head and feel his sadness. I spent a lot of time on that scene because it is so pivotal to him and his decisions.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

Please tell someone – anyone! Oh and leave a review – I read each and every one of them so that I can gain insight and advice.

Thanks so much!
Hugs,
Aine

Thank You Aine for the incredible Interview. Best Wishes....

Interview

First, thank you, Shelli.  It is my honor to be one of the first to be on your page and one of your top five.  I can’t express what that means to me.  xoxo

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
I’ve always been artsy.  I like music, and I used to play the piano when I was younger.  I’ve been involved in musical theater for years and I like to dance. like to paint, draw and cook.

Tell us 1 thing about yourself that most people do not know?
I taught ballroom dancing.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I started writing to network for business reasons. Although, I’d always thought I’d like to try my hand at writing romance since reading it a lot in middle and high school.  Once I started loving my characters and my readers were contacting me and loving the stories… soon writing became my focus and the business went away. (Hehehe!)

What inspired you to write your first book?
If you’re asking why I began writing, it’s in the last question, but if you want to know specifically about what inspired the actual book, it was because of my college boyfriend and what he used to say whenever we left each other.  We lived in different cities and he’d say “Don’t forget to remember me”….

Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members?
That’s pretty easy… the Twilight Fan Fiction Community is the first place I posted anything I’d written and the readers there… just wow.  They embraced my story, welcomed me and told their friends to read.  Many are still with me and have become friends for life.  I’m forever grateful for their support.  Now it’s still the readers, my street team and the many, many bloggers who promote my work.   I simply couldn’t do it without any of you.

Hardest scene you have ever written?
Oh, boy.  That’s a tough one.  I make myself cry often when I’m thinking up the stuff, but the hardest to write for me is when I have to take a beloved character and make them less than perfect… Like Ryan in The Remembrance Trilogy.  The scene when Jane comes to him was tough.  I couldn’t make him fail more than I did.  No way.

What gives you the most inspiration?
No question, it’s my readers.  It’s their reviews, the emails, the tweets and words of encouragement what say they love what they are reading.  They make my heart swell, my hands fly across the keys and my mind to dig deep for the next story…

Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:
The places in all my books are real… down to the addresses/locations, menus at restaurants, etc… If a book is set in a city and someone who lives there reads it, I hope they recognize it all. It makes the stories more real, I think.  And that is always my first goal.

What are your current projects?
I’m working on the second and third books in my next series, After Dark, as well as another series titled Famous that will follow and a couple of stand alone novels.  I recently organized Stories for Amanda, an anthology piece to benefit anti-bullying efforts and am contributing to another anthology (it’s the first look at Famous), that Madeline Sheehan is putting together to benefit domestic violence victims. That piece is due this month and should be out early 2014, I believe.

Will you have a new book coming out soon?
Yes! I’m really excited! Angel After Dark the first novel in the After Dark series will release in January, 2014.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
It’s different from my first series because it’s written in third person, the characters are older, it’s funnier and then has a darker theme in the later books.  But it still has my stamp on it: hot sexy love scenes, angst, heartbreak and obstacles to overcome.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
The best thing is to read it and tell your friends, comment on Facebook threads and tweet!  We love to see reviews, but word-of-mouth is the best reward and just hearing from you… that’s the BEST for me!

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thank you.  I’m always humbled by your support and nothing raises me up more than knowing you can relate to or have fallen in love with my characters!  For those of you who love Ryan… please give Alex a shot.  Threesomes are FUN! J

And now, before you go, how about a snippet from your book that is meant to intrigue and tantalize us?
Oh, OKAY!  If you’re gonna twist my arm! J  Here is a few paragraphs from Angel After Dark:

Alex’s breathing eased as the elevator made the short trip to the top floor. When the doors opened, he quickly found the cherry wood door with the brass numbers and rang the bell. There was soft music coming from the other side, and he tented his fingers as he waited.
When it opened, his surprised eyes fell on Becca, Angel’s best friend. She leaned against the door in ratty jeans and a pink T-shirt from the fitness club where she worked, her eyes raking him up and down in apparent appraisal.
Alex smirked at her. “Hello, Becca. Nice to see you again. I’m here for Angeline.”
“Hi, Alex. Come in.” Becca moved out of his way so he could enter the apartment. The lights were low, but Alex’s eyes drank in the details, longing to know Angel better. The space had clean, elegant lines; classic furniture, more gleaming cherry wood on the floors, and dark marble in the kitchen greeted him. The artwork was tasteful but sparse; a large fireplace took up most of one wall in the living room, topped off with a large flat screen mounted over it. The vase of lilies he’d sent sat on the coffee table in the living room.
Becca followed him in. “Can I get you a drink? Angel usually keeps a nice assortment.” Alex glanced at his watch. Five minutes past eight.“Actually, I have reservations at TRU for 8:30.” He glanced around and Becca used the opportunity to check him out. Her eyebrows rose and her lips pursed. TRU was a classy French restaurant; extremely exclusive and pricey.
Just as he said it, the door down the hall opened and high-heeled shoes sounded on the floor. He turned toward the sound and froze in place, his breath catching in his chest.
Angel looked amazing. Her legs went on for miles in strappy platform heels accented by a bow around the ankles and a short, little black dress. It was simple and elegant, with a deep halter neckline leaving the inside swells of her breasts bare, but just barely; her shoulders and arms completely so. Hair was piled up, accentuating the long line of her neck, with soft tendrils falling around her face; her only adornments were diamond and onyx drop earrings and a thick matching bracelet. Her make-up was subtle and her soft, pink lips glistened softly.
She stopped 10 feet in front of him, soft, alluring... so tempting. Her perfume softly surrounded him as he drew breath into his suddenly tight chest. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her, his heart racing. Add to it that, for once, she wasn’t busting his chops, and she was absolutely irresistible. His hand came to rest on his chest as he struggled for what to say, torn between looking at her, listening to her voice, getting into her head, or getting into her pretty little panties.
Angel was equally breathless. She’d steeled herself for this moment, but she was still left gasping. He was the most beautiful man she’d ever seen, his suit impeccable and perfectly tailored to his lean, but very solid form.
“You’re... luminous, just... radiant, Angeline. I... have no words,” he said softly, his green eyes alight with desire.
Angel blushed. “Those are pretty good ones. You look very handsome, too. I didn’t know what your plans were so... I wasn’t sure what to wear.”

“You’re perfect. Shall we go?” He smiled softly. “The car is waiting.”
“I just need my bag.” She walked into the kitchen where Becca was watching silently and picked up her clutch from the counter. When she did, she passed Alex and he was presented with the rear view of her dress. It hung loosely on her small body and the back was completely bare down below the waist. He could just see the beginning of the little dimples at the top of her ass.
“Holy hell,” he said in surprise. Angel smiled softly, her eyes meeting Becca’s, who laughed out loud.
When Angel turned and came back to him, she smirked and glanced up into his eyes. “You didn’t expect me to play fair, did you?”
“You’re just...” he began.
“Half-naked?” she teased, her eyes challenging him. “Yeah, I know.”

Thank You Kahlen for sharing your amazing new Cover Angel After Dark and given me an amazing interview. By the Way Happy Birthday x0x0
